Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s biggest Drone Festival – Bharat Drone Mahotsav 2022. He also interacted with Kisan drone pilots, witnessed open-air drone demonstrations, and interacted with startups in the drone exhibition center.

ONGC becomes the first Indian gas producer to Trade on IGX [23 May 2022]

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd.(ONGC) has become the first Exploration and Production company in India to trade domestic gas on Indian Gas Exchange (IGX). The gas traded was from ONGC Krishna Godavari 98/2 block. The first online trade was made on 23rd May by ONGC Director (Onshore) in charge of marketing Anurag Sharma on IGX which is India’s first automated national level Gas Exchange.

Vinai Kumar Saxena appointed as Delhi’s new lieutenant governor [23 May 2022]

President Ram Nath Kovind has been pleased to appoint Vinai Kumar Saxena to be the Lt. Governor of National Capital Territory of Delhi with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office. Baijal’s successor, Saxena, is presently posted as chairperson of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). He was appointed as its chief in October 2015. The KVIC functions under the Ministry of Medium, Small and Micro Enterprise, and is responsible for generating employment opportunities in rural areas through implementing khadi and village industry programmes.

Nikhat Zareen won gold medal in World Boxing Championship [20 May 2022]

Nikhat Zareen, India’s new boxing superstar won the gold medal at the 52-kg World Boxing Championships tournament in Istanbul. She defeated Thailand’s Jutames Jitpong 5-0 and won the match with a unanimous decision. With this, Zareen has become the only woman boxer after Mary Kom to have achieved this feat. She is also the fifth Indian woman boxer to win the gold medal and world championship.

BSE appoints SS Mundra as Chairman [17 May 2022]

BSE Limited announced that it has approved the appointment of SS Mundra, Public Interest Director as the Chairman of the board of directors of the company. Mundra will replace Justice Vikramajit Sen who is the current chairman. Mundra was appointed as Public Interest Director at BSE in January 2018. He retired as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India on 30th July 2017 after completing a stint of three years. Prior to that, the last position held by him was as Chairman and Managing Director of Bank of Baroda from where he superannuated in July 2014.

India wins maiden Thomas Cup title, beats Indonesia 3-0 in finals [16 May 2022]

India created history by winning the iconic badminton championship Thomas Cup against Indonesia. It won three straight matches, two men’s singles and a men’s doubles match to seal the championship. With this win, India has become the sixth country to win the title. India’s Kidambi Srikanth defeated Indonesia’s Leonardus Jonatan Christie in Thomas Cup Final 2022 held in Bangkok.

Dr Manik Saha sworn in as 11th Chief Minister o Tripura [15 May 2022]

Dr. Manik Saha took oath as Chief Minister of Tripura after Biplab Dev step down as Chief Minister. Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya administered the oath of office and secrecy at Raj Bhavan, New Capital Complex here in Agartala city. Dr Saha was unanimously elected as the president of Tripura Pradesh BJP on January 15, 2020. Later, he was elected as the Rajya Sabha MP. Now, he has become the 11th Chief Minister of the state.

Shri Rajiv Kumar assumes charge as the 25th CEC of India [15 May 2022]

Shri Rajiv Kumar assumed charge as the 25th Chief Election Commissioner of India at Election Commission of India, Nirvachan Sadan, New Delhi in pursuance of the Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India’s Gazette Notification dated May 12, 2022. Shri Rajiv Kumar has been serving in ECI as Election Commissioner since September 1, 2020. During his tenure as Election Commissioner, elections have been held for State Assemblies of Bihar in 2020, Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal amidst Covid concerns in March-April 2021 and also elections to Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh recently in early 2022.

Shri Rajiv Kumar appointed as Chief Election Commissioner [12 May 2022]

The President is pleased to appoint Shri Rajiv Kumar the senior-most Election Commissioner, as the Chief Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India. Shri Rajiv Kumar will assume the charge of the office of the Chief Election Commissioner with effect from the 15th May 2022 vice Shri Sushil Chandra consequent upon his demitting the Office of the Chief Election Commissioner on the 14th May 2022.

2nd India-Nordic Summit [04 May 2022]

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi participated in the 2nd India-Nordic Summit along with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen of Denmark, Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir of Iceland, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre of Norway, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson of Sweden and Prime Minister Sanna Marin of Finland. The Summit provided an opportunity to review the progress of the India-Nordic relations since the 1st India-Nordic Summit, which was held in 2018 in Stockholm. Discussions were held on multilateral cooperation in post-pandemic economic recovery, climate change, sustainable development, innovation, digitalization, and green and clean growth. Discussions were also held on cooperation in the maritime sector with a focus on sustainable ocean management. Prime Minister invited Nordic companies for investing in the Blue Economy sector, especially in India’s Sagarmala project. India’s partnership with the Nordic region in the Arctic Region was discussed. Prime Minister noted that India’s Arctic Policy provides a good framework for the expansion of India-Nordic cooperation in the Arctic region.
