How to Apply for a Duplicate PAN Card

Step 1- Go to https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/correctiondsc.html to initiate changes or corrections in your PAN details.

Step 2- Scroll down to the bottom of the page. From the block “Apply for Changes Or Correction in PAN Data (for DSC users)”, select ‘Individual’.

Step 3- When you click on Select, a new web-page opens up where the form for “Request For New PAN Card Or/ And Changes Or Correction in PAN Data” appears.

Step 4- You are now required to fill all the fields in the Form make sure you do not tick on any box given on the left margin. Fill this form with various details like PAN, full name, parents names, address for communication, date of birth, Aadhaar No, email id, contact details etc.

Step 5- To move forth in the process of applying for a duplicate PAN Card, you are required to make the payment and submit the form online. Once the payment is successful, the form will be submitted along with the required supporting documents and a proof of the pre-owned card which has to be reprinted. After submitting the form for reissuance of the duplicate PAN Card and making the necessary payment, you will receive an acknowledgement slip that contains a 15-digit acknowledgement number which can be used to track the status of the PAN application.

Step 6- The acknowledgement slip should be printed, duly signed and affixed with a photograph. This should be mailed to the NSDL Office  along with demand draft (if you haven’t made the payment online), proof of existing PAN, proof of identity, address & date of birth as specified in the application. Make sure that you super scribe the envelope with ‘APPLICATION FOR PAN CHANGE REQUEST— N-Acknowledgment Number’ (e.g. ‘APPLICATION FOR PAN CHANGE REQUEST—N-881010200000097’). In case you have lost your Acknowledgement receipt, you can regenerate it here- https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/changemode.html. Once this acknowledgement slip is delivered at NSDL office, your request will be processed and approved. The duplicate PAN Card will be dispatched to your communication address as mentioned in the form.

Documents Required for Duplicate PAN Card

In order to apply for a duplicate PAN Card, the applicant is supposed to submit a host of supporting documents along with the form to TIN-NSDL’s official website. These documents are as follows:

  1. Self-attested copy of PAN Card or PAN Allotment Letter
  2. Self-attested proof of identity
  3. Self-attested proof of address
  4. Self-attested proof of date of birth

Documents Accepted as Proof of Identity:

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Arm’s licence.
  • Certificate of Bank.
  • Health Scheme Card by the Central Government.
  • Original Identity Certificate signed by a Gazetted Officer.
  • Original Identity Certificate signed by a member of the Legislative Assembly.
  • Original Identity Certificate signed by a Member of Parliament.
  • Original Identity Certificate signed by a Municipal Councillor.
  • Driving licence.
  • Voter ID card.
  • Photo card of an Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme.
  • Passport of the applicant.
  • Pensioner card that has the applicant’s photograph on it.
  • Photo ID card issued by a Central/State Government or a Public Sector Undertaking.
  • Ration Card containing the applicant’s photograph.

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Statement of Bank accounts.
  • Allotment Letter Accommodation issued by Central/State Government of the previous three years.
  • Original Identity Certificate signed by a Gazetted Officer.
  • Original Identity Certificate signed by a member of the Legislative Assembly.
  • Original Identity Certificate signed by a Member of Parliament.
  • Original Identity Certificate signed by a Municipal Councillor.
  • Statement of Credit card.
  • Consumer gas connection card or book or gas bill.
  • Statement of Depository Account.
  • Government issued Domicile Certificate.

  • Original Employer Certificate.
  • Telephone or broadband bill.
  • Latest Property Tax Assessment Order.
  • Passport of the applicant.

  • Passbook of the Post Office containing the applicant’s photograph.

Documents Accepted as Proof of Date of Birth:

  • An affidavit citing the date of birth of the applicant and which has been sworn before a Magistrate.
  • Certificate of Birth.
  • Government issued Domicile Certificate.
  • Driving licence of the applicant.
  • Certificate of Marriage issued by the Registrar of Marriages.
  • Matriculation certificate.
  • Pension payment order.
  • Passport of the applicant.

Important Points to know when getting a Duplicate PAN Card

  • Your acknowledgement, demand draft, if any, and document proofs, should reach NSDL within 15 days from the date of online application.
  • Applications received with demand draft as mode of payment shall be processed by NSDL only on receipt of relevant proofs and realization of payment.
  • Applications received with credit card / debit card / net banking as mode of payment shall be processed by NSDL on receipt of relevant documents (acknowledgement and proofs).
  • The form and the documents are then verified by the necessary authority and if everything is correct, the duplicate PAN Card is dispatched to the applicant.
  • In case of re-issuance of a duplicate PAN Card without any changes in PAN database, the address for communication will be updated in the Income Tax database using address for communication provided in the application.
  • The acknowledgement slip contains 15-digit unique acknowledgement number, Category of applicant, Permanent Account Number (PAN), Name of applicant, Father’s Name (in case of ‘Individual’), Date of Birth/Incorporation/Agreement/Partnership or Trust Deed/Formation of Body of Individuals/Association of Persons, Space for Photograph (in case of ‘Individual’), Payment Details, Space for Signature, Aadhaar No., Address for Communication, Details of Proof of Identity, Address & Date of birth(applicable for Individual & HUF applicants). Acknowledgment slip will also indicate fields in which change/correction is requested.

Cases when a Duplicate PAN Card is Required
